County Commissioners to Help Serve Free Summer Food Program

What: Commissioner Pete Sorenson, Commissioner Bill Fleenor, and FOOD for Lane County board members will be handing out free lunches to youth at Summer Food locations in Lane County

When: Noon – 12:30 p.m., Thursday, July 24. Most lunches will be served in first 15 min!

Where: Lane County Commissioner Pete Sorenson: Amazon Park, 2700 Hilyard, Eugene;Lane County Commissioner Bill Fleenor: Veneta City Park, 25192 Broadway, Veneta

Media Op: Commissioner Pete Sorenson, Commissioner Bill Fleenor, and FFLC board members will be available for interviews and photos.

County Commissioners Pete Sorenson and Bill Fleenor are teaming up with FOOD for Lane County to remind people that free lunches will continue to be served Monday through Friday at more than 60 sites throughout the county through August 22.

The federally funded Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to all children and teens ages 2 through 18, regardless of income, race, ethnicity or disability. Toddlers 1-2 years of age may eat if accompanied by a responsible adult. For a complete list of sites and serving times, go to www.foodforlanecounty.org.

The Lane County Commission on Children and Families and local sponsors are working together to increase awareness and participation in the Summer Food Program. Local sponsors of the Summer Food Program include FOOD for Lane County, Eugene School District 4J and Junction City School District.
