Have Dog? Have License! Licensing Clinic Coming
Contacts: Lane County Animal Services Supervisor Tom Howard, 682-2356; Rochelle Jones, Lane County Animal Services analyst, 682-3013
The "it" pet accessory for any season isn’t a designer carrying case or tailored puppy outfits.
The most important accessory you’ll ever buy your pet goes with any collar, is personalized, and it’s your pet’s phone call home should they become lost. It’s a license – and it’s available at your Lane County Animal Shelter.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, July 26, at 3970 W. First Ave. in Eugene, LCAS will be issuing free rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a new license or renewal of a license. The shelter is also offering micro-chipping with registration for $20 and DHPP vaccinations for $10.
"We want to make it easier for pet owners to license and care for their pets," said Tom Howard, LCAS supervisor. "It also means that we will be able to return home, call and/or send a letter if your lost pet is picked up by an LCAS officer or comes to the shelter."
Every dog must obtain a license when one of two things occurs: either the dog reaches the age of six months, or it obtains its permanent canine teeth, whichever comes first. Failure to provide and keep the license current may result in a late fee and/or fine. Lane County Animal Services provides animal welfare services to the City of Eugene and unincorporated Lane County. If you live within these two jurisdictions you will license your pet with LCAS.
There is no legal requirement to license your cat or kitten. However, voluntarily doing so will help LCAS return your loved one should they become lost.
How do I get a License Online?
Licensing or renewing your pet’s license online takes just a few minutes. But remember, your pet must have a valid rabies vaccination. For more information on e-Licensing, go to https://ecomm.lanecounty.org/EPets/
Did You Know? Revenue from licenses supports important LCAS programs including abuse and neglect investigations, spay/neuter voucher program for low income families, and emergency medical services for stray animals – services that ensure the health and safety of the community.
