How do we support and empower youth? How do we strengthen local families?
This work is at the heart of Lane County’s Department of Children and Families and its 21-member commission, the Lane County Commission on Children and Families. The Commission or CCF works to promote and enhance the environment of our communities to protect, nurture and support healthy children and families.
“Children and their families are at the very core of our communities – and why we collaborate with a network of community partners to address their challenges,” said Alicia Hays, Children and Families director.
CCF members are meeting with the Lane County Board of Commissioners as part of an annual collaborative effort to discuss progress on efforts that address issues facing local children, youth and their families.
The annual joint meeting will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., this Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Serbu Youth Campus, 2727 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Eugene. Community members are encouraged to attend.
CCF is responsible for Lane County’s comprehensive, community plan for services to children, youth and families. CCF has adopted “increase quality childcare for 0-3 year olds” as one of its community identified top three focus areas for the next seven years. Its other goals include increasing support for youth in transition with mental health needs, and reducing child abuse.
CCF members and the Board will discuss these community priority focus areas during the joint meeting.
