Contact: Anette Spickard, Assessor, 541-682-4321
The Department of Assessment and Taxation will have revised customer service hours for Friday, January 22. The revised hours will be:
- Telephone assistance (541) 682-4321 will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. including the lunch hour.
- Tax Payment and Manufactured Structure transaction counters will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. including the lunch hour.
- Public Information counter will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. including the lunch hour. Limited property tax account information will be available after 2 p.m.
- The “Tax Balance Due” application of the Regional Land Information Database (RLID) application will not be available between 2 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2010 and 8 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010.
The reason for the revised hours is the migration of the County’s property tax database from an Informix server platform to a Microsoft SQL platform. The property tax database is the largest database in the county and contains millions of rows of data. In order to have full operations available on Monday January 25, the system must be taken off line beginning Friday January 22, 2010 at 2 p.m. The migration project will occur throughout the weekend. The office will return to the normal customer service hours of 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning on Monday, January 25, 2010.
The above revised schedule includes opening the telephone lines and customer service counters one hour earlier than normal and working through the lunch hour to provide the most customer service time possible before the migration project begins.
The Lane County Assessor/Tax Collector collects property tax on behalf of 82 separate taxing districts including cities, schools, education service districts, water districts, rural fire districts, urban renewal districts and other taxing districts such as park and recreation, library and ambulance districts. About 49 percent of your property tax dollar goes to education; 34 percent goes to cities; 3 percent goes to fire districts; and 5 percent goes to other districts such as ambulance, library, and water districts. Lane County keeps only 9 percent of each tax dollar collected.
