“It’s so satisfying to work with children who have experienced a traumatic ordeal and help them heal and regain their childhood.” —Victim Advocate
Positions Available:
-
Victim Advocate: Volunteer victim advocates serve children who have been victims of physical or sexual abuse or have witnessed domestic violence. Advocates provide families with support, information, and referrals to community agencies to meet their legal, financial, mental and physical health needs. Advocates also inform and educate families about the criminal justice process, provide case management and follow up and keep families updates on the status of their cases. Advocates must be over 18 years of age and are subject to a complete criminal history check. Advocates are asked to commit to serving a minimum of 8 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00) for one year.
-
Childcare Volunteer: In addition to advocacy services, the Kids' FIRST Center offers a free educational support group for non-offending parents and caregivers of children who have been sexually abused. Free childcare is offered in conjunction with the group. Volunteers provide supervision and fun, structured activities for children while parents meet with the group. Childcare volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and able to work on Monday nights from 5:30-7:30. A one-year commitment is not required.
