Patrol Section
Patrol deputies respond to emergency calls for police services and protect the lives and property of Lane County residents through the investigation of crimes and the apprehension of persons who commit crimes.

The Patrol Section has a total of 20 sworn deputies and 5 sergeants covering a geographical area of 4,620 square miles (approximately the size of Connecticut) with an unincorporated area population of 98,751.

Having the two contract cities of Veneta and Creswell requires deputies respond to aid in high risk calls for service.  The Lane County Sheriff's Office patrol staffing is approximately 0.45 deputy to every 1,000 citizens, as compared to the Western States average of 1.8 deputies to every 1,000 citizens.

In addition to responding to crimes in-progress, deputies conduct criminal investigation and take crime reports, apprehend offenders, conduct patrol checks, investigate injury and fatal traffic collisions, domestic and dispute situations, attend community appearances, provide civil standby's, civil paper process service, and mutual aid to other law enforcement. Deputies conduct limited traffic enforcement on County roadways. Currently, seven trained reserve deputies assist in a volunteer capacity.
