HIV Testing & Counseling
LCPH provides HIV testing for all Lane County residents by appointment. The testing fee is $32.00, however no person will be denied services due to inability to pay. The HIV test can be done alone or as part of the STD Program.
There are two options for HIV testing: (1) Anonymous testing - you do not provide your name or (2) Confidential testing - you provide your name. Results are relayed two weeks from the date of testing. All results are relayed in person. For those testing anonymously, you must bring your anonymous number back in order to receive your results. Hard copies of test results are only given to those who test confidentially.
HIV is found in 4 body fluids (vaginal fluids, seminal fluids, blood, and breast milk). The only way to get infected with HIV is to have one of those four fluids from an infected partner get into your blood-stream and infect you. Learn more about HIV risk and transmission. In Oregon , the highest risk factors for getting HIV are sex between two men and sharing needles for injecting drugs.
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention CDC and Oregon Department of Human Services ODHS recommend public sector HIV testing for those at highest risk for HIV infection.

LCPH offers the HIV rapid test, which provides results within 20 minutes. All HIV-negative results are lab confirmed. Any preliminary positive results must be re-tested before being lab confirmed. As stated above, HIV testing may be done anonymously (no name) or confidentially (name). Hepatitis vaccinations and Syhpilis testing require name and date of birth.
The CDC and ODHS recommend public sector HIV testing for those most at-risk for HIV infection. In Lane County and in Oregon , Gay, Bisexual and other MSM make up 60-70% of all new HIV infections.
